Ponying - Robins first hack

March 22, 2018

Today we took our youngster, Robin, out for his first visit to Heartwood Forest. In the picture, taken by Becky riding Mac, I am ponying Robin whilst riding Apple.

Ponying is the practice of leading one horse while riding another. It is used as a method to exercise horses too young to be ridden.

Robin is 3 years old and is just starting his career as a riding pony. He has spent some time being lunged and once happy going out and about, we will introduce a rider and take him out ponying with a rider on board.

He is proving to be a quick learner with a wonderfully, calm outlook on life.
